Udupi: Rape and murder of 17-yr-old girl in Manipal - Accused arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Mar 10: Police here on Friday, March 29, arrested a man in connection with the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl at Sagri in Manipal.

Hanumanthappa (29) is the man arrested. Originally from Badami, he stayed in Kaup and worked as a collie worker.

The rape and murder had taken place on Sunday, March 10.

The incident had come to light when a woman found the victim dead near the railway tracks.

The victim worked in a shop in Udupi.

As per details available now, Hanumanthappa befriended the victim and said he would give her a better job. He took her to the jungle and raped her. When she threatened that she would complain to her parents about the rape, he killed her by strangulation.

It was very difficult for the police to investigate as they did not have much clue. So they took time to identify the accused. After some days of the crime, they found two images of a man taking the victim on his bike captured by CCTV cameras in two different places of Udupi. It took a longer time to identify the bike and the rider as the images were not very clear.

On the night of Friday, March 29, the police found the accused in Udupi and arrested him. After subjecting him to interrogation, he admitted to the crime and gave details.

So , Raping and Kiling a lady is low profile for you ? Are you saying the police should have let him go? How about the girl who died ? Was she high profile too ?

I think we common people must just see crime as crime and not profile it . Kudos to Udupi police for investigating the crime . Hope enough evidence is collected to prove the suspection .

A big thank you to the police officers of Udupi for catching this monster.
Hope they hang him, India does not need such vile creatures to live for murdering and raping a 17 year old girl.
Rape can never be justified and anyone guilty of this heinous crime should be punished severely.

We have a tendency to blame police for everything. But nobody appreciates them when they do something great like this. I do agree that it is their job but often we people forget the work load, pressure and political involvement in their work which demoralize them.
