Bengaluru, Apr 1: Vehicle thefts have increased these days. Many lose their hard earned money after vehicles are stolen. Therefore, the union government on orders from the Supreme Court has decided to put an end to the menace.

New vehicles sold from April 1 will be provided with high security number registration plate. “It has several specialties that are useful for vehicle owners,” said transport department commissioner V P Ikkeri.

“New vehicle manufacturers and distributors will have to mandatorily register the vehicles with these number plates. Vehicles missing with such number plates can be easily located. There are check posts everywhere now because of elections. Despite them, cash and valuables can be easily transported by changing vehicle number plates. The high security number plates will put an end to such incidents,” said check post inspecting officer Chandrashekar.

Vehicle owners have opined that such number plates should be used for old vehicles too.
