Kundapur, Apr 7: It is gathered that the Guinean who attacked and killed Prashanth Basrur from here and inflicted serious injuries to his wife near their apartment at Donauworth near Munich, Germany, has been considered as mentally ill. The initial investigation has concluded that he was not driven by any vengeance in attacking the couple and he did so due to disturbed mental condition. Currently he is being provided medical treatment.
The Guinean immigrant had all of a sudden attacked Prashanth and Smitha Basrur, living in the neighbouring apartment, with a knife last Friday morning. Prashanth had died in the attack while Smitha is being treated in a hospital.

Advocates based in Augsburg said that the accused is being treated for his mental condition as he was found to be not of sound mind. The preliminary investigations and primary opinions have pointed out to the possibility that the attack was launched not on purpose, but because of the attacker's mental imbalance. However, investigation has not yet concluded, as per statement of advocates and reported by the local media. At the request of the advocates, the arrest warrant of the accused was modified and order of temporary restraint was issued, it is said. The attacker has been admitted into the district hospital.
The police say that during their enquiry they did not come across any incident of friction or quarrel between the youth and Prashanth's family members before the fatal attack. The accused was overstaying his visa period, and the administration had denied his request for extension of visa. He was to be deported during March this year. The accused, who was going through mental turmoil on account of this had barged into the office of the administration and behaved rudely. A few days earlier, he was arrested when he was driving under the influence of drugs and liquor. His driving licence therefore had been cancelled which resulted in his losing his job as driver, the police said.
