Mangalore: Strict Enforcement of Election Code of Conduct from Mar 12

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (RS/CN)

Mangalore, Mar 12: The district administration will take steps to remove all the posters, banners, buntings, and advertisements, connected with polls (except commercial) from Thursday March 12 as the model code of conduct is in force, ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to media persons at a press meet here on Wednesday March 11, deputy commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj said that the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981, will be strictly implemented in the entire district.

“The concerned authorities will start filing cases from Thursday if anybody is found violating the model code of conduct,” he said.

“Different teams have been formed to implement the code throughout the district”, said the DC, adding that permission will be given to the organizers of any event to display their banners, buntings, and posters at the venue two hours before and till two hours after the event and these publicity materials should not be visible in public.

Replying to a query the DC said that the banners and buntings put up by the organizers of Hindu Samajotsava throughout Mangalore City will be removed on Thursday.

Superintendent of police Dr A S Rao said that a fine of Rs 100 will be imposed on first-time violators and the second time around the fine will be Rs 300. He added that as per the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rule No 127, no public transport vehicle can display any publicity material related to any party, but the rule does not apply to private vehicles.

Headquarters assistant officer Prabhakar Sharma said that the public may call 1077, the toll-free number, if they have any doubts over the model code of conduct.

Regional Transport officer Afzal Ahmed Khan was also present.

That is a welcome move indeed, by the District Administration and other concerned authorities. City would look better, neater rather than having colourful flags, posters, buntings every where in the city. Just a thought, the huge monies that would have been spent on these materials, could be used for a better cause in society, like to a charitable or a oldage home or for the Education of under previliged children etc.!! Thanks to our Dynamic DC & his associates who have initiated this move. Please keep up the good move. But most importantly please ensure implementation of this move is mandatory and offenders are punished as per laws. Else it would be yet another old story or repeatation of history.

The decision of DC may sounds good and the question is whether it's implemented practically? It has been a bad practice since years people of some organiztions to put up flags, buntings in the public places which is against the constitution of india.Hence it's we public must take an initiate towards this menace and make our country, state, district, city, home clean and green. We must gather a general public coordination in this regard.Anyway I appreciate our new Deputy Commissioner's move.

This is the best move by the Govt., Banners, posters etc spoil the look of the city. moreover all the posters should be banned even that of cinemas. This will help in keeping the city clean and also promote green environment, so much of paper is wasted.

What a waste !!!!! Samajostava people spend money in designing the posters, printing the posters and also fixing them. Now it is District admministration has to spend money to remove them. Yes you could not stop fixing them and now atleast suffer for removing them. The time and energy could have been used to support the downtrodden, which deserve the support most. If this is done then I dont think anybody will get converted to other religions !!!

Thank for DC and police, for putting an end to lawlessness. People can have a decent living, only if a small grough of rogue people are strictly controlled and public awarness is created by media and administration.
