Mangalore: Vandana Award Conferred on Spin Maestro B S Chandrashekar

Mangalore, Mar 12: Former spin maestro of the Indian cricket team Padmashree B S Chandrashekar, was conferred the Vandana Award for his lifetime achievements in the field of cricket. The event was held at the Geetha SM Shetty Auditorium here on Thursday March 12.
The award was presented by the Rotaract Club of Mangalore City jointly with Dakshina Kannada District Cricket Association and Ramakrishna College. The award comprises of a memento, a citation, and a cash award of Rs 10,000.
Speaking to press persons prior to the felicitation programme, he said that nowadays there are plenty of opportunities for spinners in cricket. “All the international cricket squads have at least two specialist spinners. A team with two spinners and three medium pacers is an ideal one”, he opined.
Asking the reporters not to ask any controversial questions, he said that the performance of the present Indian cricket team is good. “In fact, every past Indian squad was good, but sometimes other foreign teams were better than us. A little bit of luck also matters in one-day games”, he claimed.
Interestingly, he said that he does not watch cricket games regularly. “At present we have got a well-balanced team. We should be number one in international cricket”, he added.
Talking about 20-20 matches he said that it is a form of the game which is successful nowadays. “Just a decade ago, there were only clubs, Ranji’s, and test crickets. But today, age-group cricket and a lot of tournaments have ushered in a boom in the cricket arena”, he informed.
B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman, Coastal Development Authority, and A G Pai, chief operating officer, MSEZ, were present on the occasion.
