New Delhi, Apr 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had asked the first time voters to offer their votes to those who executed Balakot air strikes. Election Commission (EC) of India is understood to be examining this statement to determine whether it violates the directive it had issued to political parties to desist from mentioning about armed forces during their campaigns.
Sources say that the commission has called for details from the polling authorities in Maharashtra. It is said that the local polling authorities had opined that the remarks made by the prime minister, on the face of it, had violated the EC directive. Modi had uttered these words during an election rally at Latur, Maharashtra, on April 9.
Modi had asked first time voters whether they can set aside their votes for the valiant soldiers who conducted the Balakot air strikes and for those brave hearts who were martyred in Pulwama attack.
The EC had issued an advisory last month, asking parties not to use actions of armed forces for their political campaigning.
