Mangaluru, Apr 19: Christians across Mangaluru and Udupi diocese observed Good Friday to commemorate the Passion of the Christ and his death on the Cross.

The ceremony was led by Msgr Maxim Noronha at Rosario Cathedral in city. Fr Flavian Lobo preached the special sermon of Good Friday from the traditional pulpit.

The sermon concentrated on wide and varied contemporary matters with focus on the crucifixion of Christ.

Fr Flavian said that Mother Mary also did not know that her son Jesus would have crucifixion. But she believed in God and took it as His will. “Uncertainties are common in life. But ultimately every sad incident will lead to greater good like death of Jesus and then salvation.” he said.

Fr J B Crasta, Fr Victor D’Souza, Fr Rocky Fernandes and Fr Anil Fernandes were concelebrants.

Later a procession of the Cross was held from the Cathedral in the vicinity of Pandeshwar.

The city and also other places of the diocese and also parishes of Udupi diocese observed Good Friday with devotion.

Mangaluru: Good Friday - Way of the Cross begins in solemn atmosphere

Mangaluru, Apr 19: Good Friday happens to be one of the most important days in the Christian calendar. This year, it falls on Friday April 18, and parishes all over have been observing the occasion.

Thousands of devotees have been flocking their respective churches to take part in the Good Friday prayer service. Way of the Cross, with which the occasion begins, starts early in some of the churches while in some, it is held later in the day.

St Joseph Church, Pezar

Good Friday main service begins after 4 pm in churches. Church service today include reading of the Passion of Christ, reciting a string of prayers, unveiling and veneration of the Cross and communion service.

Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha took part in the Way of the Cross at St Joseph Church, Pezar.
