Udupi: Suggi Mari Puja Beckons Devotees to Kaup

Udupi, Mar 25: The famous Suggi Mari Puja of Kaup, which is highly popular among the devotees spread all over the twin districts and other places, began on Tuesday March 24. The festivities will end on the evening of Wednesday March 25.
The Suggi Mari Puja rituals began at all the three Mariyamma temples in Kaup, Sri Hale Mariyamma temple, Sri Hosa Marigudi temple and Sri Moorane Mariyamma temple on Tuesday night. The Mari Puja, which is historically famous all over Tulu Nadu, is held in Suggi, Aati and Jarde months as per Tulu calendar.
The Suggi Mari Puja is celebrated during March every year. Devotees from all over Karnataka and other states including Mumbai city throng to pay obeisance to the Goddess Mariyamma during the festival.
The policemen have made elaborate security arrangements for the occasion, in view of the recent disturbances that had meddled with the peace of the village. Contingents of Karnataka State Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve, police personnel, home guards, Rapid Action Force, fire brigade etc have been deployed here and circle inspectors and sub inspectors are overseeing the arrangements.
