Mangaluru, Apr 25: In view of the serial bomb blasts in Sri Lanka, the police in the coastal region of Karnataka, including Mangaluru, have beefed up security as a precautionary measure.

Mangaluru police commissioner Sandeep Patil on Thursday April 25 addressed a meeting of police personnel at his office and emphasized on the need to keep a close watch and be alert to anything suspicious.

Apart from police personnel, administrators of vital institutions like MRPL, NMPT, Mangaluru International Airport, Infosys, and representatives from malls and various religious places were also present in the meeting.

The representatives and administrators from the above institutions were issued advisory on the steps to be taken regarding enhancing security, such as securing compound wall, installing CCTV cameras, metal detectors, hiring security guards after obtaining police clearance certificate for them.

The terror strikes in Sri Lanka's churches and hotels on Easter Sunday have claimed over 350 lives and left many more injured. Terror organization ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, and police have already arrested eight of the nine suspects. Among them are sons of an influential businessman.

Churches, all religious places should CCTV, security personnel , metal scanning devices as a precaution. Bags should not be allowed within premises, unless they are examined. There is rise of religious hatred being created by political/religious extremist groups within and outside India- who might hit soft targets.People should have toll free phone to report any suspicious activity.
