Bengaluru: Terror threat warning - police arrest ex-army man, find it to be hoax

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 27: Police control room here had got a call on Friday, April 26 evening, warning the police about the impending terror attacks in various parts of Karnataka just like the ones in Colombo. The caller, identified as a lorry driver, Sundara Murthy, who made the call at 5.30 pm and conversed in Tamil and Hindi, warned that 19 terrorists have already sneaked into Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Avalahalli police have since arrested the man who made the said call. The arrest was made on the basis of the location of his cell phone. He is being interrogated by the police personnel at Vidhana Soudha police station.

Bengaluru rural district superintendent of police said that it was a hoax call and that the caller, Sundara Murthy, happens to be an ex-serviceman.

As soon as the call was received, director general of police of the state, Neelamani N Raju, had warned heads of all the southern states, informing about the threat perception and asking them to take preemptive action. High alert was sounded all over Karnataka and the agencies had been asked to immediately conduct checks if any suspicious persons were found.
