Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 30: A lady walking by the side of the road at Manipal lost her life after an auto rickshaw knocked her down, on Monday April 29. The deceased has been identified as Margaret Maben (54), a resident of Saralebettu in Manipal.

Margaret was walking by the road bend of Uma Maheshwari temple road at Ishwara Nagar at Manipal on Sunday when she was hit by a three-wheeler. She suffered serious injuries in the accident, and was admitted into the hospital. She lost her battle for survival on Monday.

Margaret had joined Kasturba Medical College Hospital as staff nurse in 1988. She was currently the assistant nursing superintendent of the hospital. She has left behind her husband and three children.

It may be recalled that a three wheeler had caused the death of a woman on March 4 at Kadiyali here, and another woman was killed in a similar fashion at Manipal on the road where the current accident occured.

It's very sad that some People are not following traffic rules. Traffic Department are creating awareness and road safety campaign... but some Drivers Especially Youths think that Driving is just for Fun... I have seen some accidents in which most of the drivers are of a very young age... Very Sad to here that someone lost their Life because of someone,s Negligence...

    Rest in Peace Mam...

Auto rickshaw drivers are only meant for fighting with the public & other road users. They don't follow the rules, no indicators working, no tail lamps working, no brake lights working. In short, they are a menace on the roads. They drive on the wrong side of the road & then have the audacity to abuse the person on the right side. They cut into the main roads from the side lanes without stopping & checking.

Wherever they want they park their rickshaws & call it a stand. The stands at Unity Health Complex, Nanthoor Junction, Kadri Market & various other places are all facing the wrong way. Why is the Traffic Commissioner & MCC not taking cognizance of this. So many accidents when coming out of Vas Lane due to this, because the rickshaws pull out without any signal & are going the wrong way.

At Nantoor Circle too they go any which way they want. What is the traffic police doing about this other than bashan on Friday evening calls with the Traffic Commissioner.

Some precautionary measures like planting the mirror for viewing the vehicles coming from the opposite direction could be seen near the road bend/curves. This will save lives. What is the traffic police doing when so many accidents are taking place?

Quite a familiar face in KMC hospital . I have seen her several times when my Mom was hospitalised during her battle with cancer. Such a sad news and loss of precious life due to someone’s ignorance to law . Because this road is a bylane and no reason for anyone to get knocked down unless the auto driver was rash and arrogant. We see some good auto drivers but , most of them need to learn human ethos .
