54th Wilson Olivera Nite to entertain music lovers at Belman on May 1

Karkala, Apr 30: St Joseph Church, Belman is organising 54th ’Wilson Olivera Nite’ on May 1 from 6 pm onwards as part of its ‘post centenary silver jubilee celebrations.’ This would be an evening filled with total entertainment consisting of music, dance and laughter. Popular Konkani songs as well as the latest songs will be performed.

Along with Wilson, the man of the evening himself, renowned singers Robin Sequeira, Ashwin D’Costa, Rynel Sequeira, Shilpa Cutinha, Zeena Pereira, Carol Sequeira and Ayshle D'Souza, with their melodious and harmonious voices will render the beautiful compositions of ‘Sangeet Sardar’ Wilson Olivera.

The musical evening will also witness the famous comedy from ‘The Expressions’. With their rib-tickling jokes and one- liners, even the ones with the most serious looks on their faces are bound to burst into peals of laughter. The team comprising of Alwyn Andrade, Sujatha Andrade and Steven Lewis in lead roles, have performed in several TV shows and also bagged prizes. Dramas written and directed by Alwyn Andrade have successfully been presented in hundreds of shows.

‘Nach Sobhann’ which has been an integral part of Wilson Olivera’s troupe since several years, will treat the audience to a round of truly astounding and breathtaking dance moves. The dances are choreographed by acclaimed choreographer Avil D’Cruz. Having established in 1989, this premier Konkani dance troupe has performed in more than 1000 shows till date.

Electrifying background scores will be presented by Roshan D’Souza, Angelore. He has been instrumental in providing music to Wilson Olivera’s compositions over several years and also to his shows in India and Gulf. The music to the songs composed by Wilson Olivera for the film ‘Noshibacho Khell’ which is still being screened from over three years, was provided by Roshan. Konkani music fans definitely know him as he has provided music to several artists and hundreds of music albums.

Ronald Olivera, the younger brother of Wilson Olivera, who has won several Toastmasters awards internationally, will be present at the event not only to cheer his elder brother but also to entertain the audience with his slapstick humour, wit, suave charm and warmth. Apart from being recognized as an international toastmaster, Ronald Olivera has also contributed a great deal to the world of Konkani music being a host for shows by many famous artists. His command over the language and ability to speak in Tulu, Kannada, Hindi, English and Konkani, has made him a successful anchor. With his wit and graceful humour, Ronald is sure to keep the audience entertained.

There are no less known facts about the lead artiste Wilson Olivera. Having written and composed over 800 songs, seven of his music albums have been released so far. Famed for his meaningful songs, 53 shows have been presented in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Udupi, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. The Konkani music world has accepted him for his great voice and meaningful renditions and bestowed him with titles ‘Sangeet Sardar’ and ‘Konkan Mannik’.

Prestigious awards –‘Konkani Kala Samaj Puraskar’ , ‘Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award’ , ‘Divo Sahitya Puraskar’ and ‘Sandesha Music Award’ have been presented to him.

The recent music show jointly organised by SMKC-Dubai and ICYM-Udupi held some months back in Udupi, was a roaring success as per the reviews provided by thousands of audiences.
