Priyanka dismisses allegations over Rahul's citizenship

Amethi, Apr 30 (IANS): Soon after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi's to clarify his citizenship, his sister and the party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday dismissed the allegations as rubbish and said her brother was an Indian who was born and brought up in India.

"I have not heard such a rubbish earlier," Priyanka Gandhi told the media here.

"The entire country knows that Rahul Gandhi is an Indian. He was born in front of all here, he grew up here and in front of all he grew, everyone knows this," she said.

Her remarks came after the Ministry issued the notice to Rahul Gandhi to clarify his nationality within a fortnight after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy alleged that he is a British national.

Priyanka Gandhi is on a day-long visit to the parliamentary constituency of her brother Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, where he is locked in a tough fight against BJP leader Smriti Irani, who is re-contesting from the seat.

On Wednesday, she will visit Rae Bareli, the constituency of her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi

Amethi and Rae Bareli will head to polls in the fifth phase on May 6 of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

    As per Immigration & Citizenship Act of Italy, children born to Italian citizens are de facto citizens of Italy unless it is renounced and surrendered in writing with due process. It is a proven fact that Sonia is a citizen of Italy and based on that she was not invited by President to form Government in 2004. Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs has issued an NOC during the beginning of UPA-1, with undue pressure on officials, to Rahul Gandhi to apply for UK Citizenship. This was to form and register a company in UK in the name of M/s Backops Ltd where in Rahul Gandhi was Managing Director. Company registry of UK will speak on these facts. Meanwhile, dual citizenship is not admissible in India as per Article 9 of Constitution. As the issues are clear, let Rahul file his explanation and come out clean if facts and circumstances are in his favor. Emotions from Priyanka has no locus standi on this issue and is a mere decoy to attract sympathy and divert attention of people. I grossly fails to understand why these people are worried if they are holding enough facts to counter these allegations....?

    Instead of listening and believing Subbu Swamy's cock and bull stories just read late Abdul Kalam's book 'The Turning points' once in which he's clearly explained, that had Sonia Gandhi wished to be the PM, she could, there was no law to stop, but she herself suggested Dr MMS's name on the grounds that he's the architect of economic reforms in India and hence the deserving candidate for PM's job.
    Well, you can always say that what Dr Kalam had said was untrue, but I for one, would rather repose my trust in Kalalm than in loose cannon Swamy

    What will happen ?
    Max. Rahul will not be able to contest elections !
    Congress is surviving not depending on Rahul Gandhi. There are other leaders in congress who can set the things al right. And that's what going to happen. Modi will not be spared and take a cat walk.
    Punishment should be meted to all with equal intention.

    Swamy's plea on the same issue was junked by SC once in Nov 2015 on the grounds that the evidence provided was too frivolous, for details refer Business Standard March 14th 2016. Swamy's only job is to rake up issues during elections and to divert focus from real issues. We all know what happened to 2G, main weapon BJP used against Congress in 2014 turned out to be no scam at all as per SC ruling.

    Subramanian Swamy and Smiriti Irani are noise makers for the BJP against the Gandhi family. The timing is suspect as it figured just before the Amethi and Wayanad elections. Is it not strange that the very agency namely the home ministry that issues passports to individuals has now issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi.

    I am sure the Home Ministry will have all the details why such a passport has been issued in the past to Rahul Gandhi. For security considerations and to hide his identity and to ensure his personal safety in england this second passport would have been issued.

    After all his security would have been of paramount importance considering that his Grandmother and father have been assasinated by radical organisations. Suprisingly Subramanian Swamy has until now now verified his emloyment from his employers in England.

    In the past the Augeta westland helicopter deal had almost all the central ministers including the PM crowing from roof tops but are remaining totally silent on this issue of citizenship. Obviously trying to apply brakes on Rajiv Gandhis almost certain victory in these elections.

    Modi Ji and BJP all these crude attempts can not stop the outcome of the elections as people have already decided to confine youll to History.

    The whole country knows that BJP with their backs to the wall are fighting these elections with the help of CBI, ED, Income Tax, Election Commission and indulging in their favourite passtime of Slander, Lies and Falsehoods.

    Exactly....But why has Rahul signed in those papers as a UK citizen is the question...
    He has grown in front of all. No doubt. Everyone grows...but everything within does not grow.
    That is the problem... for..
    1. An Indian cannot have dual citizenship and 'N' number of Passports.
    2.Being a MP and having a Company Abroad 'Black Hops' or something without bringing it to the notice of officials concerned here is just not done....
    Let him come clear...
    I think the Congress clearly misses Priyanaka Chaturvedi here.

    @Bandoo Maam,A indian can also can take up other citizenship .It is not a problem .But he can also wants to return to his country,at any time give back his second and why not take up his originaL?Original one cant be denied.God knows their problems will self solve.
