Mangaluru, May 1: The district administration has decided to re-introduce the water rationing system in the city due to the depletion of water level at the Thumbay vented dam, which is the lifeline of water supply to the city.

Accordingly, water supply will be stopped from 6 am on May 1 till 6 am of May 3. As the water needs to be conserved till the first week of June, the rationing system will continue as per the information given by the commissioner of the MCC. Water will be supplied for all the wards for 96 hours on four days and the same will be completely stopped for the next 48 hours.

The MCC and district administration had decided to follow the water rationing system on April 11 itself. However, later it was changed to implement after the polling on April 18. Accordingly, the water was stopped at 6 pm on April 18 till the morning of April 20. Then it was decided to stop the supply on April 24. However, due to the pressure from the public, people’s representatives and also due to the rise in water level to a little extent, the rationing system was dropped last week.

In the midst of all these developments, minister U T Khader had paid a visit to Thumbay vented dam and had told that further action will be taken depending on the possibility of rain on April 30. However, now, as the possibility of rain has waned, the district administration is compelled to continue with the water rationing system.

Timings and dates of water rationing system in the month of May (according to MCC)

*Water supply will be stopped from 6 am on May 1 to 6 am on May 3.

*Water will be supplied from 6 on of May 3 to 6 am on May 7

*Water supply will be stopped from 6 am on May 7 to 6 am on May 9

*Water will be supplied from 6 am on May 9 to 6 am on May 13

*Water supply will be stopped from 6 am on May 13 to 6 am on May 15

*Water will be supplied from 6 am on May 15 to 6 am on May 19

*Water supply will be stopped from 6 am on May 19 to 6 am on May 21
