Chikkaballapur, May 1: Anirudh Shravan, deputy commissioner (DC) of the district has given a new meaning to May Day by working with the team of personnel and students in cleaning an old water resource (Kalyani) that was used as dumping yard of waste and garbage.

Personnel of city municipality and Scouts and Guides students got the Kalyani cleaned under the able leadership of DC Anirudh. This Kalyani, that is situated near the auditorium that is being constructed newly on BB Road of the city was over flowing with garbage and totally got eclipsed due to the thorns and bushes that have grown over it.

The DC, who had seen this Kalyani during the inspection of the work of the under construction auditorium had made a vow to rejuvenate the Kalyani. So on the day of May Day itself he, along with the personnel of city municipality, students and journalists got the Kalyani cleaned. The cleaning work went on for nearly three hours.

Anirudh Shravan said that he has given instructions to the concerned officials to identify all the water resources in the district that have become extinct because of throwing garbage into them in order to revive them.

If same initiative is taken in lakes of Mangalore there may not be water shortage. At the moment most lakes are almost dry. Great opportunity to remove slit, dig it few meters depth so that it can hold more water next year! Who will take initiative?? Our MLAs are busy blaming the past than trying any solution. If all our DK MLAs give up their usual fooling agenda and together do this job...there will be great appreciation. I doubt they are interested....they have more faith on their agendas so that they will win next time too!! High time common people take them to task about their contribution to respective constituencies.
