Kasargod: Omni van topples - mother and son dead, three injured

Kasargod, May 2: An Omni van, that lost control of the driver, toppled in a place 35 feet below road, at Onibagilu, Badoor, Perla-Puthige road here on Thursday, May 2. A woman and her son, who were travelling in the vehicle, died on spot.

The deceased are identified Beefathimma(58) and her son Mohammed Sharif(38).

The incident happened at about 1.30 pm when the family was going for naming ceremony of the child of Mohammed Sharif’s wife’s brother at Mugu, Puthige. The van lost control of the driver at Onibagilu curve and toppled. Sharif’s wife Khairunnisa(28), and children Shamna(10) and Shahar Banu(6) who are serious injured in the accident, have been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru. It is said that one of them is critically injured.



Local people who came rushing after hearing the thud struggled hard to pull out the victims of the accident from the mangled car. But two people had already died on the spot.

The dead bodies are kept in Kasargod general hospital mortuary. Those will be handed over to the family after postmortem. Badiadka station police have registered a case.

Abdul Sharif was working as cashier in a hotel in Mumbai. He had come just before Lok Sabha elections and was to return to Mumbai tomorrow.

    Mr. Ragavendra, Mumbai: The accidents can happen to anyone and any vehicle if the driver do not follow the Safety rules on the road and drive as he wishes. I have been driving OMINI for the last 10 years. Even our roads are bad. Follow the road safety rules and leave rest in the hands of the providence. Even the best of the vehicle and the driver can involve in accidents for fault of someone else. Jai Hind

    Agreed, but still not a safe car in case if the opposite vehicle is wrong by all means. TOYOTA has brought lot of models recently it would be glad if they release that one particular famous model Toyota Hiace Van in India.

    This is a horrible and deadly accident. The pictures itself shows how the Omni van was mangles due to the fall. RIP all those deceased and wish a speedy recovery of those injured.

    Maruthi themselves must be having data of how many people have died on this vehicle.
    In 2014 I met with a small accident driving a Ford Car on Goa - Mumbai road. There were no injuries but at least 10 people from Ford India called to inquire how the accident happened ...
