New Delhi, May 3: We may ask what is in a name. But at least in this election season, it matters a lot. Actor-turned-politician Ajay Singh Dharminder Deol is widely and popularly known as Sunny Deol. Sunny's real name has left the BJP workers worried and the cause of this worry is that the common man in the constituency may not know that Sunny Deol is Ajay Singh and this name change might confuse them in the day of polling.
As per the rule, EVM will put up only the name that is registered in the nomination paper. Thus, his real name Ajay Singh will appear on the EVM in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP's candidate.
Though, there is confusion prevailing, BJP is still hopeful that there are certain provisions which allow a different name to be used.
Sunny Deol started his campaign in Gurdaspur on Thursday. He sat on top of a truck and moved around the area, drawing a huge cheer from the people. Deol also lifted a hand-pump while canvassing for votes, in a throwback to the famous scene from his 2001 blockbuster movie ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha.’
Sunny is contesting against state Congress president Sunil Jakhar in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab.
