Mangaluru, May 3: Trucks transporting fish and spilling waste water on the roads, making the entire area stinky and messy was the main concern of callers during phone-in programme held at city police commissioner’s office, here on Friday, May 3.

DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh acknowledged of receiving similar complaints earlier. “We have started looking into this matter. We had a meeting with Road Transport Authorities and Lorry Association Owners and we have taken certain decisions to control this issue. We have mandated that fish should be stored in crates and trucks should be equipped with insulators. We have also issued notification that if trucks are found violating the regulations, the first penalty would be Rs 5,000 and if the violation is repeated the trucks will be seized.”

Two callers complained about parking issue near Lalbagh circle. Due to the recent extension work, motorists are facing hassles as there is no space for parking or for buses to halt. DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya said ACP Traffic M Manjunath Shetty is already looking into the matter and will come up with a solution at the earliest.

A caller from Bejai Kapikad complained about bikers driving over the speed limit and having modified their silencers to emit loud noise, causing noise pollution. Also, the speeding could lead to accidents, he said.

Similarly another caller complained about noise being emitted from Bullet bikes. To both the callers, DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh assured to enforce special drives and also look into other alternatives to solve this issue.

Responding to a complainant about the bus stands in the city not being equipped with necessary shelter to protect people from rains or facilities that will be helpful for senior citizens or people with special needs, DCP Hanumantharaya assured to notify the appropriate authorities and ask them to take action on this issue.

A caller from Ambedkar Padu complained that around 60 families in the area face inconvenience as there is no bus facility from Ambedkar Padu to Mangaluru city. DCP Hanumantharaya assured to notify the appropriate committees and solve this issue at the earliest.

A caller from Moodbidri complained about negligence from the fire officials. In a recent fire that occurred, even after complaints, the fire department did not attend the issue and localities had to control the fire by pouring water, he complained.

DCP Hanumantharaya responded saying that they will look into this issue and also get in touch with the chief fire officer Shivshankar.

A caller complained about fake identity cards submitted at a hospital near Bunder Police station while another caller complained about a garage in Padil operating without a license. The Police said they will look into the respective issues.

As many as 24 calls were received during the phone-in programme.

DCP law and order Hanumantharaya, DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh, ACP Traffic M Manjunath Shetty and others were also present.

The phone-in programme is held every Friday from 10 am to 11 am, during which callers may call on 0824-2220530 or 0824-2220201 to directly express their grievances to the police commissioner.
