Kundapur, May 3: Kechanur residents Ganesh and Poornima wanted their wedding to be one of its kind. Unlike other weddings where only the close families are part of celebrations, this couple ensured their guests experienced a 'blast from the past' along with all the usual fun.

Ganesh and Poornima concentrated on highlighting the rich culture and heritage of the Tulunadu region with an exhibition of traditional items that are part of its folklore.

The wedding held in Sheshakrishna auditorium, Tallur, became a memorable experience for thousands who witnessed it. Over 240 items including traditional cooked rice 'chatty', rice staff, wheel, 'Kaimargi', Yakshagana diadem, traditional saree etc were exhibited from teacher Srinivas Surgoli’s collection.

Not just that, the bride’s side and groom’s side had a fun war with songs in an Antakshari competition

The couple wanted to make sure that the menu is different and makes people nostalgic. Hence, food and soft drinks from the rural region such as Goli soda buttermilk, Kashmir tea, ‘Sugar peepi’, ‘Benki Beeda’ and bananas were arranged for morning breakfast.

Lunch was delicious with cashew fruit juice, Kamadhenu yoghurt, spicy papad, peanut salad and other items that cooled the stomach. A special bangle counter was opened for guests.

Women celebrated wearing bangles and flowers in their hair. A book and cartoon exhibition was also held. Those who voted in the recent Lok Sabha elections were presented free books worth Rs 250 after showing indelible ink on their finger.
