Doha, May 6: The Doha Chapter (The “Chapter”) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a seminar on the topic ‘Future of Finance’ on May 1 at Hotel Crowne Plaza – The Business Park. Around 120 members of the chapter who are finance professionals in senior positions in various businesses and organizations across Qatar attended the event.
The key note speaker for the session was CA Harikrishna Mahadevan, director-PWC Middle East Finance Consulting Practice and is responsible for the Finance consulting business unit of PwC Qatar. He enlightened the audience on the constantly changing business dynamics and the role of finance in such an evolving scenario. He stressed that finance role has transformed from being a book keeper to generating and providing real time strategic information to enable Businesses to make timely and informed decisions. CA Hari emphasized that finance professionals have to make use of the tools and technology available in the market to achieve these goals and move towards becoming strategic decision makers rather than being just Accountants. He closed his session by quoting ‘Change is coming, and I would urge each of you to introspect on where you think your sweet spot lies’.
In her opening remarks the chapter chairperson CA Rukkaiya Pachisa thanked the members for their presence in large numbers. She mentioned that the unprecedented pace of change within the finance function, and the wealth of opportunities available to the forward-thinking finance leader to transform his operations is frankly staggering. She added that Digital finance has precipitated the next wave of finance transformation but brings its own challenges. CA Kamlesh Tibrewal gave the brief on the much-awaited trekking trip to ‘Hampta Pass trek’ for the members to be conducted during the Eid-Al-Adha holidays.
Earlier the secretary of the chapter, CA Nirlep Bhatt welcomed the members to this event. The vote of thanks was rendered by CA Jithu Koshy who expressed gratitude to the speaker, members, executive committee team, volunteers, sponsors and all those who achieved in making this event a grand success.
Attendees were highly appreciative of the chapter for organizing an event on a relevant topic. Intense interest, enthusiastic participation, quality of the speaker, positive feedbacks and an insightful Q&A session was the hallmark of the excellent event.
The Doha chapter of ICAI is established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 33 overseas chapters of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. The current membership of the chapter is approximately 300, who hold key positions in private and public sector establishments in Qatar and are actively involved in support and development of accounting profession in Qatar. The chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members, local professionals and non-members. Doha chapter of ICAI is the first professional membership body to be registered with Qatar Financial Centre.
