Daijiworld Media Network - Tumakuru (SP)

Tumakuru, May 7: Yashas from Huliyar in Tumakuru district has topped Chennai region in the tenth standard examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) by scoring 498 marks out of possible 500. At the same time, Chennai region which covers Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman Nicobar islands as well as Daman and Diu, with a pass percentage of 95.89, has stood second in the country behind Thiruvananthapuram which registered 99.85 percent result.

In the entire country, 13 students have scored 499 marks out of 500 but none of them are from Chennai region. At the same time, Yashas happens to be the only student from this region to get 498 marks. A total of 25 students have stood second in the examination by getting 498 marks while 59 students have secured 497 marks and therefore have been placed third.

As in the past, girls have fared better than boys in this examination.

Yashas, who travels 30 km to his school from his village in the morning and again covers the same distance to reach his home in the evening, also takes care of his ailing father. His elder sister is pursuing engineering degree course at Bengaluru. Yashas says he did not follow any particular time table for studies and used to study whenever he had time including during the time he travelled.

Yashas feels that to get good marks, the students need to regularly read their books rather than going on a reading spree only at the examination time. He says that parents can play an important role if they evince interest in the studies of their children. When there is an environment that encourages studies both at the schools and at homes, the students automatically can do well in the examination, he says.
