Mangalore: ‘Suddi Bidugade’ Editor to Contest Polls

Mangalore, Apr 9: Now, it is the turn of a journalist to contest for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Dr U P Shivananda, the editor of ‘Suddi Bidugade’ has decided to contest the parliamentary elections as an Independent candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Shivananda said his sole intention is to establish a fear-free environment in the district.

“More than winning the elections, creating an awareness among the people regarding the power of democracy and the local issues is my purpose.

 
 
 
 
“In place of internal and external terror, people should start thinking about national security and integrity,” he said.

The scribe, who is also a doctor, will file his papers on April 9.

He had contested against former chief ministers M Veerappa Moily, S Bangarappa and Ramakrishna Hegde in Karkala, Soraba and Basavanagudi respectively.
