Bengaluru: Heavy rain coupled with hailstorm causes traffic jams

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (EP)

Bengaluru, May 17: Parts of Bengaluru were hit by heavy rain and hailstorm in the afternoon on Friday, May 17. People suffering from summer heat are glad and relieved by the decreased temperature.

However, many had to face hardship and traffic jams because of unexpected thunder storm. Rain water has filled the streets obstructing traffic.

Heavy downpour was witnessed near town hall, Mysuru road, Vijayanagar, Nyayandalli, and Basavanagudi. Traffic jams were seen on Bennergatta, Koramangala, Madiwala and Race Course road.

The weather department has forecast rain and thundershowers for Bengaluru throughout the week. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius.

Private weather forecaster Skymet has said that Monsoon will arrive on India's southern coast by June 4 and cause less than average rainfall.

Monsoon rains, the lifeblood for India's agriculture-dependent economy, arrive on the southern tip of Kerala around June 1 and retreat from Rajasthan by September.

We badly need the rains not only in Bangalore but every part of Karnataka. Last year it was a bad day for the farmers and many of them ended their lives due to drought. Of course heavy rains and thunder storms cause damage to people as well as to properties. That is nature.
