Bengaluru, May 22: Due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday May 21 in some parts of the state, five persons lost their lives. Four more were injured. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in a few places in interior Karnataka during the next three to four days.
Madappa Siddappa (57) from Talawad village near Siddeshwar in Bhalki tauk was killed after lightning struck him when he was working in his farm. A bull that was with him also lost its life. Dayananda Sidramappa Sirashetty (43) who was engaged in agricultural activities at Dubalagundi village in Humnabad taluk became a victim of lightning. Three others, Manikappa Hallikhedkar, Anil Keroor, Jagappa Pasaragi and Basavaraj Hudagi suffered serious injuries.
A man and his nephew were killed at Madhwara village in Gurumitkal taluk due to lightning. They happened to be Ashok (33) and Chandrashekhar (28). Another person, Sabanna, who was with them, was injured and his condition is stated to be serious. He was admitted into Raichur district hospital for treatment.
Mayanna (52) fell victim to lightning when working in field at Gollarahatti Anambur, Jagalur taluk, Davanagere district. A number of cattle lost lives due to lightning at various places.
Hailstorms were reported from Ballari, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagalur, Davanagere, Hubballi, Raichur, Koppal, Vijayapura, Yadagiri and Shivamogga districts.
The department has said that north and south interior Karnataka are expected to get rainfall along with lightning and thunder on Wednesday. The rains will continue to occur till May 26, it added.
