Trichy, May 26: A 32-year-old auto driver Abdullah, who tried to stop his passenger from getting harassed at a restaurant, was allegedly beaten to death on Sunday in Trichy. He was mercilessly beaten by four men and according to victims family members not a single person came to his rescue.

Abdullah was a resident of Muslim street in Trichy city and he had left home around 11 am on that fateful day. He was taking a female passenger to the Trichy Famous Biryani restaurant and was waiting for her to pick up parcel when he was killed.

As per The News Minute report, Abdullah's wife Ashmin Banu said, “According to what eyewitnesses told us, an inebriated man, who was at the restaurant, purposely smacked into the woman. My husband immediately questioned the man and the people with him, and then, a tussle ensued. They hit each other and then the drunk man left, threatening to bring more people. But my husband didn't take it seriously. However, he did come back with three men and they all hit him till he died. They used a wooden plank to beat his head."

A complaint was filed on Sunday night with the Trichy Police and as Abdullah was the only bread winner of the family, Tashmin who has to now take care of their two young children is not sure what future has in store for them.

However Srirangam Assistant Commissioner of Police K Ramachandran termed the incident as a drunken brawl. He said “Abdullah was also inebriated and he died because he was pushed to the ground and sustained head injuries. It was not a big fight". He however agreed that the reason for the brawl was that the woman was harassed by Nagarajan who was also drunk at that time.

Tashmin however has strongly denied that her husband was inebriated at the time of incident. "He would never drink and drive. He was with another passenger. I don't know why the police are saying so. All he did was fight against people harassing a woman and there is nothing wrong in that. Not even one person in that restaurant came to help him and now the police are saying this," she said.
