New Delhi, May 27: As the Congress party is trying to introspect the humiliating debacle it faced in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections, it is gathered through reliable sources that the president of AICC, Rahul Gandhi pointed fingers directly at three senior Congress leaders for pushing their sons and neglecting the larger interests of the party.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was furious and alleged that the top team of the party left Rahul Gandhi alone to wage war of words against prime minister Narendra Modi.
According to the information gathered of the proceedings of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meetings that was held on Saturday to analyse the reasons for the poll debacle, it is learnt that Rahul Gandhi analysed each and every point about the roles donned by several party leaders and also put forward a decision to resign from the post of party president.
Rahul Gandhi also made it very clear in the meeting that no member of the Gandhi clan will adorn the top positions in the party, which means it is curtains for Priyanka Gandhi, who many saw as taking on the top position of AICC.

The party is chalking out future course of action amidst the rumbling within the party over the sudden turn of events at the CWC meeting. Congress in one of its worst performances in the Lok Sabha elections won only 52 seats and did not win a single seat in more than 18 states and union territories. Rahul Gandhi secured a win from Wayanad constituency in Kerala but lost the family stronghold of Amethi to Smriti Irani.
It is said that Priyanka Gandhi also vented her anguish at the meeting and lost her temper on some occasions in the meeting that stretched for four hours. A senior leader of the party who attended the meeting said that at one point Priyanka also said directly that all the people present in the meeting are responsible for the debacle of the party.
Some senior Congress leaders tried to pacify Rahul Gandhi to reconsider his decision of resigning the position of AICC president. At this point, it is learnt through sources that Priyanka Gandhi burst out and lashed out at those leaders and asked them 'Where were you all when my brother was fighting the battle alone?' Priyanka further stressed that not a single leader supported Rahul Gandhi when he wanted to cash in on the Rafale deal and Chowkidar Chor Hai factors.
Rahul Gandhi directly accused former union minister P Chidambaram, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath and CM of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot of giving priority to their sons keeping aside the interests of the party. He also left the meeting abruptly and was adamant not to continue as president of the party.
While Nakul, son of Kamal Nath and Karti, son of Chidambaram made it to the parliament by winning their respective seats, Vaibhav, son of Gehlot lost his seat.
According to sources, when Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP from Guna asked Rahul to find ways to strengthen the leaderships of the party at state level, Rahul looked at Chidambaram and said that he threatened to resign from the party if his son was not given a ticket. Elaborating further, Rahul said about Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath, who was not present in the meeting how he could be the CM if his son is not given a ticket? Rahul further picked Ashok Gehlot, the CM of Rajasthan and said that he spent a week campaigning for his son in Jodhpur without giving any attention to the other parts of the state.
It is learnt that Rahul Gandhi was terribly upset and at one point asked why anyone else cannot take the position of the party president. However, Priyanka was also against Rahul resigning from his position at this point as it would be giving BJP an upper hand in the political scenario at the center.
The AICC president was not happy on the party leaders not stressing on the Rafale deal during their election campaign and asked how many present in the meeting supported him in pushing the corruption related issue of Rafale against the prime minister. When some in the meeting raised their hands, it is learnt that Rahul Gandhi did not accept their confirmation.
