Karkala, May 28: An eighty-year-old specially abled woman reportedly has been cheated. It is said that the documents pertaining to her house were mortgaged to a bank as security for a loan availed from there and that she was kept in the dark about the amount of loan raised. The woman lives at Nelligudde in Kukkundoor village in the taluk.

The lady who was taken for a ride happens to be Seetha Poojary. Allegedly, the son-in-law of her sister, Varija, cheated her by raising a loan of Rs 8 lac from Allahabad Bank located at Salmara in the town. Surprisingly, the bank has lent Rs 8 lac to the above person on the basis of records pertaining to just five cents of land. The loan was granted in 2013.

Seetha Poojary has been living with her sister, Varija, at Kukkuundoor Nelligudde since the last 35 years. Seetha's only daughter is married. Varija has three daughters, one of whom is married. The husband of her eldest daughter, Jayasheela from Ellare village, used to visit the family often. Seetha has accused Jayasheela of raising a huge loan from the bank by giving her land and house as security.

Seetha says that Jayasheela had discussed with her about the desirability of availing a loan of Rs 2 lac for repairing her house in the year 2013. As per plans, loan was raised from Allahabad Bank. Seetha came to know that the loan amount raised was Rs 8 lac, only after she got a notice from the bank recently.

The bank has been serving notices seeking repayment of loan repeatedly from Seetha Poojary. The family which is not in a position to repay the loan is in distress. The family is in dire straits and facing the prospects of being driven out of their home. Varija's two other daughters too live with Seetha.

The family finds it hard even to make both ends meet and have food every day. The health of Seetha too has been a cause of concern. Jayasheela, who raised the loan, too has been ill since a month, relatives of the lady said. The family which is moving between advocate, police station and bank, is facing critical situation.

The distressed family is thinking of seeking help from local MLA, V Sunil Kumar, to come out of this situation.
