Mangaluru: Water level in Thumbay depleting - Sufficient only for 8 days

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 29: The vented dam at Thumbay built to supply drinking water to the city holds only 2.95 meters of water as of now. If water is pumped on a daily basis, it would be able to meet the requirement of citizens for only eight more days.

The depleting water level has naturally caused anxiety among the citizens. The situation is being considered serious because, unlike in the past, there is no inflow of water into the dam since the last several weeks.

As per the water rationing method implemented in the city, water pumping was stopped at 6 am on May 28. The supply would be resumed on June 1. After the water is pumped for four more days and then stopped for four days, once water supply is resumed, it would be able to sustain for only one cycle of four days. One hopes that it will rain by then, but there is no viable alternative plans if the rainfall does not occur.

On an average, water level at Thumbay dam goes down by 15 cm everyday whenever water pumping is on. For four days, water level goes down by 60 cm. If we consider this, the current water held in the dam might suffice for eight days.

Even if water from wells and bore wells is used to supply water to citizens through tankers, there is likelihood of the situation turning critical as there is doubt about both water and supply machinery falling woefully short of the requirement.

The plants are expensive to build.
It can be a very costly operate.
It requires a lot of energy to operate.
It contributes to the world's greenhouse gas emissions.

There is no point blaming government or our civic authorities because we know they are careless, we need to collectively take measures to save water. All we can do now is pray to Almighty to send rain. This has been my cry to God and I believe the Lord will bless us with good rain. Shalom.

Water shortage is the worst scenario, as everyone daily life is around the water. Including animals and birds. No water stored in Tumbey Dam is tragedy, but how much are we careful in using the water as good civilized citizens? is just blaming the governing body would be helpful? I myself have seen how people were wasting water during the rationing of the water in the last week. Even after so much news that no water people were washing their house veranda, car and sprinkling water to the walls (cleaning it seems), water pipe is kept on continuously even after the bucket is filled. When asked not to do such thing, response was "We are paying for water as water bill. So we can use how much ever comes in the pipes". and it was none by an educated college going student. this is the quality of the education with no common sense. Rather than just blaming let's spread awareness on using the water carefully.

Same story since decades and our authorities, government will never learn from previous bad experience. Even in the deserts of Arab world potent water is produced from seawater and digital India is always in the forefront declaring our achievements!
Now time to pray to Rain Gods and offer prayer to the creator.

THERE IS A SAYING "GIVE RESPECT AND TAKE RESPECT THEN THERE IS NO WANTING ASPECT " WHICH CANNOT BE FALSE BUT WE HAVE TO FOLLOW HEART FULLY OTHERWISE NO DOUBT WE ARE MAKING FOOL OF OURSELVES.

THE PROBLEM CAN BE SOLVED WITH THE UNITED EFFORTS OF ONE AND ALL FOR THAT MATTER "SUB KE SAATH SUB KA VIKAAS" IF PRACTICED.

WE HAVE TO FORGET DIFFERENCE OF OPINION AND THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES SHOULD TAKE EVERYBODY TO CONFIDENCE.

IF ONE AND ALL PRAY RAIN GOD COLLECTIVELY THE SHOWER HAS TO POUR WHICH WAS BEING PRACTICED IN OUR SOCIETY.

BUT NOW A DAYS NOBODY WANT TO SEE FACE TO FACE BECAUSE OF SECULAR PATTERN ENVISAGED BY POLITICIANS FOR VOTE BANK.

Please stock sufficient tissue papers. Will be in great demand in few days. Also use banana leaf and disposable plates and do not reuse steel plates as they need water to wash them.
As such all of us are being supplied with sewage cleaned water!!

Our governments only learnt how to take the tax and impose the rules but failed to find the solutions and provide efficient administration ! They only know how to blame the previous governments failures till their tenure and continue .... ! people enjoy as they say " for the people, by the people and from the people"

Mostly we electing the criminal backgrounds with low level educated and not aware of law or any functionality of efficient governance. Top of that our people only interested to invite them for inauguration functions, laying foundation stone and declaring unbelievable projects which will never realized !
