New Delhi, May 30: Congress party, which was routed badly in the recently held Lok Sabha elections has decided not to participate in any TV debates for a month from now.
This was confirmed on Twitter by Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress communications in-charge. Randeep posted on Twitter: 'Congress had decided not to send spokesperson on television debate for a month'.
Randeep also informed all the media channels not to invite any spokespersons of the party for debates. His post said, "All media channels/editors are requested to not place Congress representatives on the show."
This step by the age old party of the nation comes at a time when it is introspecting the reasons for the humiliating defeat in the 2019 Lok sabha elections. Discussions and huddles are being held at all levels in the party to regroup and plan the next course of action.
The party is also searching for a new president as the current president Rahul Gandhi is not backtracking from his decision of resigning from the position. For sometime, it seems, he will continue in the position as the party tries to overcome the jolt it received in the elections.
According to party insiders, Rahul Gandhi will remain president at least for the next four months. This was agreed upon by Rahul after the senior leaders of the party requested him not to take any drastic decision at this point in time as it will further weaken the morale of the party and its followers.
The state Pradesh Congress Committees (PCC) is also putting pressure on Rahul to take back his decision of resigning from his position. Bollu Kishan, general secretary of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to go on an indefinite fast from Thursday May 30 to force Rahul to take back his decision.
A resolution in this regard was passed by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) of Karnataka. Senior Congress leader of Delhi Sheila Dixit also requested Rahul Gandhi to consider his decision of resigning from the position of president. Hundreds of party workers and leaders are gathering outside the residence of Rahul to show their faith in him.
Though Sheila Dixit paid a visit to the Tughlak Lane residence of Rahul Gandhi, she did not specify whether she had a discussion with him. In the midst of these developments Congress party has called for a meeting of all opposition parties on Friday to introspect the points that were responsible for their debacle in the Lok Sabha elections. The opposition will also plan their action plan for the first session of the new parliament, which is slated to begin on June 6.
