Kyrgyz President attends PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony


New Delhi, May 31 (IANS): Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Sharipovich Jeenbekov on Thursday attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and invited him to visit Kyrgyzstan for the SCO Summit next month, an official statement said on Friday.

Kyrgyzstan is the current chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and is an important partner of India in Central Asia. The Prime Minister is attending the annual SCO summit in Kyrgyztan capital Bishkek.

Jeenbekov congratulated Modi and also extended to him an invitation for a bilateral visit during June 13-15, said the statement from Prime Minister's Office.

Recalling that India and Kyrgyzstan have warm and friendly relations, Modi expressed satisfaction at the strengthening of bilateral ties over the years.

The Prime Minister thanked Jeenbekov for his presence at the swearing-in ceremony expressed his gratitude for the invite to Kyrgyzstan and said that he eagerly looked forward to visiting the country, added the statement.
