Beltangady, Jun 3: A crocodile was sighted inside an abandoned well at Dondole near Dharmasthala in the taluk on Sunday, June 2. This incident frightened the people of the region. Pilikula Nisargadhama officials were intimated about this find. The crocodile was brought out of the well safely on Monday, June 3 and released into Charmadi rivulet.

It is gathered that the five and half feet long crocodile had found its way into a defunct well belonging to a local by the side of forest area. It is believed that the crocodile would have come out seeking food as the river nearby rivulet has gone dry, and fallen into this 15-feet deep well accidentally. The crocodile was acting violently at the sight of people. Experts from Pilikula Nisargadhama had said earlier that if the crocodile is found injured, it would be taken to Nisargadhama. Forest officer Subbayya Naik had said that if the crocodile was found healthy, it would be released into Charmadi rivulet.
