Puttur: Abduction of minor girl - Absconding accused arrested

Puttur, Jun 5: A complaint of kidnap of a girl on March 9 this year had been filed in the rural police station here. The police, who took up investigation, succeeded in finding out that the culprit was Akhter Hussain from Assam.

Personnel of the station, police sub-inspector, Saktivelu, and constables, Adrama, Vinay Kumar and Gayatri, went to Assam and rescued the abducted girl on March 17 from Bongaigaon in that state. During this operation, the accused succeeded in evading arrest by fleeing. The girl was then entrusted to her parents, and the police continued with their probe. The police also found through the medical report that the girl had been sexually exploited, after which the case was brought under different sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police, who followed up the case actively, got information about the accused being in Kerala. Police sub-inspector, Saktivelu, probationary sub-inspector, Uday Nayak, and other staff arrested Akhter from Nettanige in Kerala on June 3 and produced him before the court.

The court has remanded him to judicial custody, the police said in a press statement.
