Mangaluru: State government mulling to bring policy for homestays – U T Khader

Mangaluru, Jun 5: District in-charge minister U T Khader said that the state government is planning to bring out a policy on homestays and PG's in the state.

Addressing media here on Wednesday, June 5, U T Khader said, "There are many homestays and paying guest (PG) facilities in the state and there was no proper policy for it. So the state government is planning to bring out a policy for the same for the first time a state.”

“The policy, which is in the drafting stage now, will be a model policy. There are lots PG's for women. For the purpose of their security, policy needs to be introduced. The policy will mention whether the PG's should exist or not,” said U T Khader.

Online system for property tax

Minister Khader said, "Online system for property tax and E-khaata will be introduced within the corporation limits to bring an end to the manual system and make the work easier for the public.”

No confusion on Good Friday, Eid Milad and Mahalaya Amavasya holiday

"There is a lot of confusion regarding scrapping government holidays on Good Friday, Eid Milad and Mahalaya Amavasya. People should not get confuses over the holidays as the government has not taken any decision in this regard. The draft which was made, is under discussion and even public opinion will be taken into consideration,” said U T Khader.

Water rationing system to continue till June 10

Giving clarification on the water rationing, minister U T Khader said, "As we have commenced the water rationing system very early. Due to this, we could manage the supply of water till date, even if the monsoon has not yet arrived. Same proportion of rationing will continue till June 10.

Ramalinga Reddy not sidelined

When asked about Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy's frustration of not being made minister, U T Khader said, "Ramalinga Reddy is a senior leader of the Congress party. We have not neglected him. Discussion will be held to resolve the issue. We should leave power politics and focus on issue-based administration. It is time to rise above power politics.”

    Security ? How security can be imposed by a law on homestay/PG, when rape has no punishment yet ?

    As for bringing the business into tax ability, please bring street vendors under control, including those who sell fast food on carts. The nation loses ay lot of revenue in that part.

    First of all house owners are struggling to earn pea nuts rental income from their properties. While property prices and construction cost has gone up, the rentals are going down. Poor people who have invested in property are not able to earn their livelyhood. Now the Govt wants to make money by bringing in legislation and make the house owners to spend more money. The only alternative is to carry out illegal renting to survive.
