Bengaluru: Meteorological department predicts rain for three days

Bengaluru, Jun 6: The meteorological department has indicated rainfall to occur in south and north interior Karnataka as well coastal belt till Friday morning.

During the 24-hour period ended 8.30 am on Wednesday, several places within interior Karnataka received some rain. The coast however experience dry weather.

A release from the department said that Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts forming coastal belt of Karnataka are likely to receive rainfall coupled with thunder and lightning for three days from June 7 to 9. The department said that wind with a velocity of 30 to 40 km per hour might blow during this period.

Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada district received rainfall on Wednesday evening. The rain was coupled with thunder and lightning. No other places in the district got any rains till midnight. But after that, light drizzles were seen in and around city with lightning and thunder.

    So far Meteorological predictions is not come true. I think because of no rain the measuring instrument might have got rusted. Or they have forgotten the system. Even I can predict better by seeing the clouds photo in last page of Udayavani news Paper.

    Cut trees, forests, raze mountains, lay concrete structures everywhere including roads, extract mines, kill animals, birds, pollute the environment, dig borewells everywhere, do real estate business everywhere including agricultural land & expect heavy to heavy rain.
    Nature is not crazy to give you what you want, whenever you want...
    Love nature first, then expect everything from it.
    Doing everything wrong & praying to God for rains.
    Does not make any sense.

    Santan Mascarenhas, Kinnigoli/Mumbai BC. Yes, it is very much possible that 10 crore trees would have been cut to facilitate the infrastructure, roads and industry.
    With so much destruction, is it any wonder that rain gods are not at all interested to visit this region? Just travel by road from Goa to Bombay and you will be able to see the havoc wreaked on nature. Once home to dense forests, this region is now a mute witness to the concrete roads that have come in their place. This is just an example.

    There will certainly be many more areas where buildings and industries have come in place of trees. Even in Mangalore which was known for its greenery, the top resembles the head of a person turning bald. The pity, however, is nobody seems to be bothered about what is going on. Even the people, they are least bothered. Some people are making some noise because of the scarcity of water but once the rains start, I am sure they will forget everything. But let me reiterate, this is just the beginning. If we fail to plant saplings and increase the green cover, more punishment is waiting to fall on us.

    Time and again we have heard these predictions and never once in this season have they come true. Even as I send these comments, overcast conditions prevail and I hope at least on this occasion, the weathermen get it right. Fingers crossed.

    As per statistics, in the last 10 years, 10 crore trees were cut in India for infrastructure, roads and industry. Hence, nature takes its own course.
