Shivamogga, Jun 6: Chief of Sri Ram Sene Pramod Mutalik opined that the crime committed by Nathuram Godse in killing Mahatma Gandhi is unpardonable. At the same time, in consonance with his habit of courting controversies, he added that if he was faced with the situation prevailing then, he too would have been forced to take this step.

He was speaking after taking part in 'Ramayana Review Lecture Week' which is in progress under the aegis of Vipra Employees Welfare Association at Karnataka Sangha here. He said he approves of the principles of truth, nonviolence, simplicity, peace etc preached by Gandhiji. However, he noted that the thoughts and principles cherished by Gandhiji had totally failed in protecting the interests of Hindus. "Gandhiji was killed by Godse. It is a heinous crime which cannot be approved of. However, if I was alive during the times of Gandhi, I too perhaps would have fired at him," he added.

Mutalik noted that Gandhiji had Nehru and Sardar Vallabhai Patel on his sides. He said that it was wrong on the part of Gandhiji to have elevated Nehru, a womanizer, to the august position, adding that Gandhiji followed several such policies which are not acceptable.

"Many feel that Sadhvi Pragya Singh should not have become victorious in the Lok Sabha election. But I believe that it is a good development. Her terming of Godse as a patriot had become controversial. The current system everywhere is vitiated like the rule of Ravana. We have to wait and watch what can one Rama who is in the form of Narendra Modi, can achieve in this situation," he added.
