Udupi: Suvarna Gopura installation ceremony held with religious rituals

Udupi, Jun 6:  The much-awaited project of Palimar Math’s Swamiji of dedicating 100 kg golden tower (Suvarna Gopura) for the sanctum of the Sri Krishna was installed with all religious rituals on Thursday, June 6.

Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math also offered Sahasra Rajata Kalashabhisheka on   Suvarna Gopura. Followed by him, the Swamijis of the other six Maths also performed abhishekha.

A grand ‘Brahma Kalashotsava’ is scheduled to be held on June 9.

From the wee hours of the morning, religious rituals like Thathva homa, Adhivasa homa, Shikhara prathishte, Shikara Kalasha pooja, Chakrabjamandala were held at the Krishna Math.

It was a dream project of Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji. More than 100 kgs of gold has been used for this tower , in addition to 200 kgs of copper and 800 kgs of silver. The tower measures 2500 sq ft and 40 grams of gold has been used for each square feet. Around Rs 32 crore has been spent on the making of this tower. About 80% of gifts were dedicated by the devotees and donors. Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji has also offered diamond coat (cover) that cost Rs 3 crore to Lord Sri Krishna Math.  He has renovated the throne and offered gold coated silver coat for the statues, in his first paryaya.

The work of Suvarna Gopura was carried out under the supervision of U Venkatesh Bhat.

Speaking to the media, Korlahalli Venkatesh Acharya said, “There is an emotional bonding with the gold. The golden rays are very powerful and have disease resistance power. Gold can be used during emergency period like drought, famine and so on.  Our ancestors served the people by keeping the math for mortgage.  This Gopura was built with farsighted  vision. Our nation stands on belief (astikate).”

Senior Pejawar Swamiji   performed abhisheka by climbing on the top of Kalasha to pour water. Besides this, the newly appointed junior seer of Palimar Math Sri Vidyarajeshwar Theertha Swamiji also happily participated in the religious rituals.

Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyur Math, Sri Vidyaprasanna Swamiji, junior seer of Pejawar Math, Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sode Math, Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji and  Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji of Admar Math, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapura Math were present during the Kalasha installation ceremony.
