New Delhi, June 6: After BJP swept 18 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee does not want to take risks in the 2021 assembly polls. Sources reveal that she has roped in political strategist Prashant Kishor, who is credited for Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's spectacular victory in Andhra Pradesh.
Banerjee reportedly held a two-hour meeting with Kishor who has agreed to officially start working with her after a month.
BJP had won only two Lok Sabha seats in 2014 but upped its game by winning 16 more than the previous polls. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress managed to win 22 Lok Sabha seats when compared to the 34 the party bagged in 2014.
Now that BJP has occupied the position of the main opposition in the state, Banerjee is hoping that Prashant Kishor’s magic can help her gain the numbers in the upcoming assembly polls.
In the recent assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s Yuvajana Sramika Raithu Congress Party (YSRCP) managed to bag 151 out of 175.
Kishor is also credited for successful campaigns of Narendra Modi in 2014 and Nitish Kumar in 2015. He was instrumental in getting Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress's Rahul Gandhi to tie up, which set up his famous "UP ke Ladke (UP boys)" campaign. He is credited for Congress’s win in Punjab and has been pivotal in bringing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and JD(U) under the banner of Mahagathbandhan in 2015 Bihar assembly polls.
Prashant Kishor joined politics in September 2018, as the vice president of Bihar's ruling Janata Dal United.
