Bengaluru, Jun 8: Indian Meterological Department (IMD) has predicted that in all possibility, monsoon will step into Kerala on Saturday, June 8. It said that the situation now prevailing in the area is conducive for the rainy season to make a grand entry.

The department expects rains to enter coastal Karnataka on June 9. The department said that the winds may gain in momentum thereafter and result in heavy rains in coastal and Malnad regions of the state.

Several districts in Karnataka registered some rainfall on Friday too. Scientist of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Sunil Gavaskar, stated that predictions based on the prevailing conditions indicate heavy rainfall in coastal and Malnad areas of Karnataka. Southwest winds which were moving slowly since the last some days, gained momentum since Thursday. The trough formed over the Arabian Sea is expected to result in low pressure area, bringing the clouds closer and supporting the conditions for heavy rainfall in some places.

The city as well as Bengaluru rural, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Mandya, Ballari, Chamarajanagara, Kodagu, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and some other districts reported some rainfall on Friday.

Due to the rain which lashed the city on Thursday night, 50 trees got uprooted and 50 electric poles were damaged. Vehicular movement was restricted because of water getting accumulated in low lying areas. About 20 vehicles were damaged.

During the last one day, rain has caused death of five including two children in Karnataka.
