Bengaluru: Setbacks cannot deter or force me to relinquish fight - Deve Gowda

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 8: Former Prime Minister and national president of the JD(S), H D Deve Gowda, said that he remains buoyant in the face of setbacks, and hence Lok Sabha election result cannot dampen his spirits. "My philosophy of life is such that I cannot sit at home and lament the loss in Lok Sabha election," he claimed.

He was addressing the participants of a programme organized by his party at the Palace Grounds here on Friday June 7 to felicitate party candidates who won in the urban local bodies election held recently. He said in spite of his ill health he made it a point to attend this programme and it is his duty to address the health issues confronting his party.

"Age is no bar for organisational work of the party. I still have been left with enough strength to build the party. Our party has bagged 579 seats in the urban local bodies’ election. With your support, I will build the party again to a state of eminence and importance," he said. At the same time, he refused to give credit for Lok Sabha victory to tact and intelligence of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. "I can only say that the people have voted for the BJP," he stated.

H Vishwanath, who has tendered his resignation to the post of JD(S) state president, did not attend the progrmme. Even though Nikhil Kumaraswamy attended it, he preferred to be seated among the party workers rather than going up the dais. He did not pay heed to repeated requests of party leaders to come on the dais.

Deve Gowda indirectly turned his anger at the Congress by saying that Kumaraswamy has been undergoing torture since the day the coalition government was formed. He also accused those who grew in stature under the JD(S) and have since joined the Congress, of creating bottlenecks for his party and giving advice to JD(S) leaders.
