Revamp education to equip youth for 21st century: Venkaiah Naidu

Bengaluru, Jun 9 (IANS): Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday called upon the stakeholders to revamp the education system to equip the youth with knowledge, skill and attitude required for the 21st century.

"As education is a catalyst for growth, nations prosper only when its citizens become educated. Need to revamp our entire education system to equip our youth for the 21st century," Naidu said at an event here.

Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Naidu said education should be transformational and not transactional as Sai Baba had shown by inspiring millions of people the world over.

Spiritual leader Sai Baba (1924-2011) of Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh is well known for setting up scores of educational and religious institutions, super-specialty hospitals and charitable trusts in the service of the people, especially the needy, children and women. Puttaparthi is 150 km north of Bengaluru.

Quoting the Kothari Commission's report (1964-68) on the country's education policy, Naidu said the 2019 draft National Education Policy stressed on excellence and equity.

"The draft education policy strikes a balance between national needs and ethos and prepares the youth to be among the best in the global context," he told the gathering.

Calling for a pragmatic language policy, the Vice-President said it should give due importance to mother tongues and other languages to help students excel in a multi-lingual world.

Noting that India is a knowledge-based economy, Naidu said that in order to thrive in a rapidly-changing world, the focus of the education system should be on the all-round development of an individual's personality.

"Intellectual brilliance must be combined with good deeds and compassionate behaviour," he added.

"...nations prosper only when its citizens become educated." says the man who should know better.

    A very misleading statement.

A nation prospers when its resources are more than what are consumed by its population. Just like a family's savings.

India's population was about 300 million in 1947. Now it is 450% of that level.

But resources did not grow at the same level.

India needs to control its population first.

Then India has some chance of stopping chronic underemployment and having manageable unemployment. THEN India has a chance of prospering.

Education (or the lack of it) hardly matters.

Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naiduji must have forgotten that his own party leader who is been elected as Prime Minister and his minister own educational credentials are in question what is the point of revamping education when PM Modi himself asking the educated youth of the nation to take 'Pakoda' making business?

Sir, India's unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in the 2017-18 fiscal year. India's Unemployment Rate at 45-Year High as PM Modi government which is denial before the elections are now disclosed.

There is no hope in India left when MP's are elected from ruling BJP who made minister in the cabinet are terrorist, rapist, corrupted, communal and moreover no valid degree.

You are Deputy Vice President of this nation. Sir your action needs more than words to correct the system.

Before revamping the education policy revamp the thinking of politicians leading the country to communalism and anti-secular agenda. The education is only good if people think secular and advance secularism . The most so called advance nations, if you want to build the education system like them, take notice all these counties have advanced on secular nations.
