Madikeri: Son Humbles Father by Passing SSLC Examination !

Madikeri: Son Humbles Father by Passing SSLC Examination!
Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (SP)

Madikeri, May 6: In a case reported from Napoklu village in the district, a father-son duo appeared for the SSLC examination together this year. However, the son cleared the examination while the father will have to wait for the next chance.

B R Devappa, who runs a small shop at Napoklu besides working part time in the local branch of Canara Bank and his son B D Deepak, a student of Napoklu Pre University College, appeared for the SSLC examination together. When the results came, the son had passed by securing 403 out of 625 marks while the father had to be content with 102, about 25% of what his son could muster.

This is one of the rare cases where father and son have appeared for the same examination together. Devappa however, is unfazed by his failure. He says, he has been trying to clear the SSLC examination to get his job in the bank confirmed. He is determined to appear the examination again and clear it by setting aside time from business and job demands. Shall we say, 'Better luck next time,’ to him?

hi, why do you think we pay income tax, service tax, besides all the other direct taxes like property tax, road tax. Moreover we also pay idirect taxes, most businesses pass on octroi, excise and sales tax to us over and above the direct taxes we pay. As an individual as component of your salary you might end up paying 50 to 60% of your income as tax!!!

For education there is no age-bar. To study at any age, a person should require will power to face society. Every person should encourage illiterate people and try to see to bring them into the  main stream. There are many people in remote villages who are very much willing to learn, but due to lack of facilites/conveiences  are unable to do so. Government/NGO''s should come forward and take appropriate steps to increase our percentage of literacy which is less than as compared to other countries. If each and every person of India will contribute minimum of Rs.10/- towards education, shelter, food etc problem of many things will be solved. What''s the use we have in top twenty - five Indian billionaires?. We are not talking of one Devappa - we need more of Devappas to come forward, who are hiding their talent, for no fault of theirs.

Son is smarter than father or hardworking than father, the competition is very healthy. But keeping a shorter distance for father to win the race is not a good idea.Let him take his time to win the race but not give up.I am so encouraged by the father`s spirit.Keep it up Devappa sir.

If Devappa runs a business, runs a shop he is already an entrepreneur and is more worthy of an  MBA qualitative masters. What counts is his skills and knowledge. In India SSLC exams are bookish and pustakada badhaneakai. Mugging and replicating on the paper does not make you qualified.

Determination and hard work will always bring fruit. I salute Mr. Devappa for his courage to attend the SSLC exams at this age along with his son. I agree with Lydia Lobo, Kadri that the board should allow him to appear for half of the subjects at a time.

There is no question of son humbling the father. Rather the son must have admired the father''s enthusiasm and zeal to study and learn inspite of his daily work and that too at this age! The son must have learnt a lesson that there is no end for learning at any age. The outcome is secondary. May be his father will try again. We have to appreciate the thirst for knowledge of Devappa and he sets an example for all the seniors who were not lucky enough to study SSLC.

It is indeed commendable that Mr. Devappa is determined in achieving this goal. Probably his age and staying away from studies for long has reduced his grasping power and memory capacity. It would be nice if the Board allows him to appear for half of the subjects at a time.

Adults those who could not study or neglected study when young should take an example from Devappa.

Hats off to B.R. Devappa for his priceless effort and courage and all must appreciate him for attempting so. His son simply to be praised for sure. Good number he secured afterall. I remember my SSLC year in 1980 and passing number was 210 and to be honest with all I secured 211. Congratulations to both Father and son and I wish and pray for Mr. Devappa for his better success in the next attempt.

CONGRATS TO BOTH. THANKS TO DAIJI. THERE IS ANOTHER INTERRESTING ISSUE: What is the nature of our exams to test the human intelligence? just Memory? If it is memory, we are speaking about vertical evolution. Todays society demands memory, speed and production. The less capable will be knocked out as there is no place for failures in the society, except hard manual labour. If we always think that the father is always clever, we will know that he is - in his own way. That''s the reason why parents want their children to opt for technology and medicine. Technology helps to survive and medicine kills our pain. Evolution is true, children of this age are clever but not necessarily wise! Fathers, don''t lose hearts. Children, don''t lose your heads! Life is a mystery and a battle. If we don''t fight, we are out. Best wishes!
