Patna, Jun 12: In an interesting turn of events, CM Nitish Kumar passed a law against abandoning elderly parents. Nitish Kumar stated in his cabinet meeting on Tuesday that offence of this kind will be deemed worthy of jail time.
The decision came in at a time when cases of abandonment of elderly have been surging.
The punishment for the same would be a case against the wards of the elderly. It will be registered under the non-bailable section. Along with this over 17 other vital proposals were approved in the meeting. One of them was provision of employment to the kin of Bihar born martyrs in the Pulwama attack.

Further, the cabinet took a step to include Chief Minister Old Age Pension Scheme under the Right to Service Act. An approval to fund Rs 76.56 crore for seed cultivation was also passed. There was also a proposal to construct a Hydropower extension station in Supaul which would generate power of over 130 MW. The other prominent proposal that received approval is the construction of a four lane bridge parallel to Bhagalpur's existing Vikramsheela bridge.
