Congress core panel axed, Rahul to be President

New Delhi, Jun 12 (IANS): Rahul Gandhi will remain the Congress President, the party said on Wednesday, adding that the Congress Core Committee had been dissolved after the rout in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Rahul Gandhi is the President and will remain the President," spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told the media after members of the core committee met informally to discuss the coming Assembly elections in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Gandhi, who has said he wants to give up the presidency after the Congress defeat, did not attend the meeting. His mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi too did not attend as she is in Rae Bareli, from where she was elected to the Lok Sabha.

Surjewala said the Congress Core Committee stood dissolved after the elections.

The meeting on Wednesday of party leaders was presided over by former Kerala Chief Minister A.K. Antony.

The Country needs a Strong opposition and only Congress party with its pan India presence can provide this stabilty in the present situation.

The Conraversory of the EVM hacking has raised its ugly head once again in the General Elections giving rise to doubts whether Democracy is being becoming a Farce after reccuring complaints coming up after every state and general elections.

Karnataka is glaring example of such doubts getting confirmed about hacking of EVM's. The BJP won a landslide in the Lok Sabha elections and just a week after the Congress and its AllyJDS swept the local body and urban body elections.

To restore credibility of our Democracy and sanctitiy of each vote We the people of India demand return to Ballot Papers in every election in the future. Say No to EVM's

You cannot compare the two. In the local /urban polls and also in the Rajya Sabha polls for that matter, its the local candidate the common public see. Its irrespective of the party the individual belongs to. I too being a JDS supporter vote for a Cong leader in the Corporation elections as the BJP/JDS candidates are newcomers and useless. But when its Lok Sabha all wanted Modi as the PM regardless who the MPs were and thats what every ones view . 75% of the voters in BJP did not want Nalin to be the MP but had no choice. Nalin sailed thru using Modis name. Its the ballant truth.
On the Cong I can only say that as long as any 'Gandhi' is at the helm, its BJP all the way.
