Kundapur, May 9: Kasturi Shetty (44), wife of the late Noojady Nityanand Shetty, director of Charmakki Group of Concerns Bangalore, who died reportedly after slipping off the deck of Star Cruise Virgo ship off Penang Island in Malaysia on April 13, said that she is open for a detailed investigation into the reasons for the death of her husband. She sought to give a detailed account of the incident, in view of the controversy created by the police complaint filed by Nityanand Shetty's mother Girijamma Shedthi, suspecting foul play on the part of her grand daughter and Nityanand Shetty's daughter, Raksha N Shetty, a fashion designing technology student. Girijamma had stated in her complaint, that her grand daughter is gripped by vices, influenced by bad company and had fought with her father on these issues many a time.
Giving details of the shocking incident at her home in Hunchani near Kollur on Friday May 8, Kasturi Shetty said she was sitting with her husband at the balcony of the ship on April 13 morning. 11 members of the family had been on an excursion then, and Kasturi Shetty explained, she had been to her room to bring tea when she suddenly heard a huge sound from the place where Nityanand Shetty was seated. When she turned to see what had happened, she saw her husband missing, having fallen off the balcony of the ship into the sea beneath.
"I raised an alarm and as there was no one to help, I jumped into the sea to rescue my husband. My daughter Raksha (19) who was in the adjoining room, came running and finding us in the sea, cried for help. The sweepers heard her cries and informed the security guards, who dived into the sea. They could save me but not my husband. They continued the rescue operation for several hours but in vain," Kasturi explained.
Kasturi sought to put at rest all the speculations and controversy in the issue, by affirming that she and her husband had no differences of opinion on any issue and the two were very close. She said she is extremely pained by the imaginary and concocted stories being floated about herself and her daughter, at a time when the two are fighting to come to terms with the catastrophe. "Let a detailed investigation be held into the death of my husband. Goddess Mookambike in whom I repose total trust, will bring out the truth," she said.
