Bahrain, May 11: Kannada Sangha Bahrain celebrated Vasantotsava – 2009 (Spring festival) on Friday May 8, 2009 at the  Bishop Tirinanzi Auditorium, Sacred Heart  church compound, Bahrain. The programme started at 6.30 pm.

Austin Santosh, president and Anil Bhasagi, general secretary,  welcomed  Abdul Ghafoor  of Meditech, the title sponsor  of the show, John Iype, chairman of C C IA Bahrain and Ajay Kumar, first secretary in the Indian Embassy, to the auditorium.  Anil Bhasagi delivered the  welcome speech, followed by prayer song rendered by Vijaya Satyanarayana.

Kannada Sangha, which was established in the year 1977, has been portraying  Indian culture and  heritage in this Island and the Sangha, in recognition of its valuable contributions,  was awarded with the Karnataka Rajya Prashasti  and Nidisiri award. On this occasion, the committee decided to honour its life members,  who have made  innumerable contributions to  the growth of the Sangha during  the past over two decades as its members, often in trying times.

The little children of the Sangha members presented an invocation dance, ‘Krishna Nee Begane Baaro,’ that became an instant hit with the audience. The audience gave a standing ovation to the brilliant kids for their flawless, excellent performance.

Austin Santosh and Anil Bhasagi later accompanied all the dignitaries to the dais, who then proceeded to light the traditional lamp. John Iype, chairman of C C IA Bahrain, appreciated the noble idea of honouring  the senior members  on this occasion . He compared  this touching moment to that of the children honouring their parents for the services rendered to the family. He told the audience, that he wished that this lofty tradition is followed by one and all.

Ajay Kumar of the Indian Embassy, Abdul Ghafoor  of Meditech and John Iype were presented  with mementoes on the occasion. Sandhya  Pai, wife of a member, was also presented with a memento for her outstanding contribution towards the functioning of the  Sangha. Ajay Kumar, first secretary in his speech, appreciated the working of the Sangha members as one entity and wished them  success in their future programmes.

After  the felicitation ceremony,  Sangha members performed  Bharatnatyam, Naada Geete,  Janapada Geete, filmy  dance  etc. Amaranath Rai, Laxmesh Kotekar and Anil Bhasagi  sang solo numbers. A mime show titled ‘Aghochara Shakti’ was also presented by the members. Folk dances ‘Kudi Meese Nan Dhoreye,’  shadow dance ‘Preeti Madhura,  Tyaga Amara’  and Hindi  filmy dances  ‘Jai Ho’ and ‘Jaisi Ghar’ were performed by Sangha  Members.  The magic  show conducted  by Varun Hegde was awesome, as every one watched his sleight of hands with bated breath.

Doomanna Rai, Sangha’s entertainment secretary, proposed vote of thanks.

The whole programme was  anchored by Vedha Mohan,  daughter of one of  the Sangha members,  A D Mohan. Vedha,  after her schooling  in the Indian  school, did her  M A in Mahajana  first Grade College Mysore  in audio visual communications. At present,  she is the associate producer in 94.3 Radio One at Bangalore, the station owned by BBC and the Midday,  playing  Bollywood  music.
