Panaji, Jun 18: Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) had announced on Sunday evening that they will be going on strike as a gesture of solidarity with their fellow doctors who were striking in West Bengal.

GARD called off its strike in the morning after the West Bengal chief minister assured the junior doctors in Kolkata that steps will be taken to scale up security at the government hospitals in the state.

Since the doctors participated in the nationwide strike, medical services in Goa were partially affected in the first half of Monday. As per the TOI report, vice president of GARD, Dr Nathan Pinto, told the publication that they have called off the strike following positive developments in West Bengal.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) branch of Goa nonetheless organised a silent march in the capital to protest against the attack on doctors in West Bengal and Ayurvedic and Homeopathic physicians also participated in the march.
