Two smugglers dealing with sale of rare snake species worth Rs 1.6 crore arrested

Bokaro, Jun 22: The smuggling of rare species of animals is steadily increasing. This action has resulted in the extinction and over exploitation of several threatened species.

On Friday June 21, two men were apprehended in relation to the smuggling of a rare species of snake. The police officials in Bokaro, Jharkand, recovered a rare species of snake called ‘Red Sand Boa’ worth Rs 1.6 crore.

In a statement the police officials said, “We have arrested two men from a hotel here and recovered a rare snake from their possession worth Rs 1.6 crore.”

The species are said to be found mostly in the state of Maharashtra and sold in the international market, especially in China. It was found that an international smuggling gang is said to be involved in this case.

The arrested duo have been identified as Sunil Paswan and Md Shahabuddin. A case regarding both the individuals is registered and officials have already begun conducting a probe in this matter.
