72-year-old man declared dead, found breathing in mortuary

Sagar, Jun 22: A bizzare case of negligence from a doctor in Madhya Pradesh has surfaced. A 72-year-old man who was declared dead by the doctor was found to be alive. The man has been identified as Kashiram from Chatarpur district. Kashiram was found breathing when he was sent for a postmortem.

After spending an entire night in the mortuary while still breathing, Kashiram, soon died while being taken for a postmortem. This incident raised several questions against the doctor for slackness. The doctor had declared the patient dead at 9:30 pm on June 20. Soon after, on the morning of June 21, he was found to be breathing. An investigation against the concerned doctor is underway.

The police officials who arrived at the scene and inquired on the matter said, “We received a call that a patient had died in the hospital. However, the person was alive when he was taken for postmortem. When we confirmed with the doctor on duty, he said that the patient is still alive.”

The police have reported this case as major carelessness on the doctor’s part. The matter has been informed to the district administration and accordingly action will be taken. Kashiram was admitted concerning an illness on June 14 and was in the hospital since then.
