Mumbai, Jun 25: Police here on Saturday arrested two bookies for placing bets on the Cricket World Cup matches that are underway in the United Kingdom. The bookies arrested were identified as Vishwas Takalkar (51), resident of Dongri and Ajay Kantraj (24) a resident of Bengaluru.

Investigating officers received a tip off of bookies lodged at Hotel Balwas on Grant Road, based on which a team from the Mumbai Police, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti-Narcotics Cell) Shivdeep Lande, raided the hotel.

As per a report in Indian Express, police said they found two men accepting bets on the match between New Zealand and West Indies and when they raided the property they found eight mobile phones on which the bookies were accepting bets.

A senior officer from the Mumbai police said, “We are looking for one more person who provided ball-by-ball information to the accused which was in turn conveyed to the punters over phone calls.”
