New Delhi, Jun 29: The developers of the infamous app DeepNude, have finally pulled down their site. After considering potential of the app being misused, the anonymous team of developers have tweeted that they will suspend their site. The app used artificial intelligence to create nude images of women.

DeepNude was available on Windows and Linux platforms, along with having a paid version and a free version. In the free version, a watermark signified the nude part of the image as fake, whereas in the paid version, the watermark could be moved and easily removed.

The developers announced on twitter that they were taking down the app which was subject to several comments, one of the users tweeted in response stating, “I am glad DeepNude is dead. As a person and as a father, I thought this was one of the most disgusting applications of AI. To the AI community: You have superpowers and what you build matters. Please use your powers on worthy projects that move the world forward.”

The programmers have justified saying that the app was created only for entertainment purpose. However, the fact that women would be naked without their consent qualifying as entertainment is an appalling statement. The twitter handle of the app had the tagline ‘The superpower you always wanted'.

DeepNude boasted of having over 500,000 users and the probability of being misused therefore would be really high. An app of this kind will therefore have higher chances of harassing women especially because of the ease of accessibility.

The developers letter on twitter had statements which ended saying ‘People who have not yet upgraded will received a refund. The world is not yet ready for DeepNude," and ideally the world should never be.
